12 month Moratorium for Coal Seam Gas
State Leader of the Australian Party, Aidan McLindon, has today
announced three key elements of the Australian’s party’s policy
on the coal seam gas industry.
1. Moratorium on the CSG industry for a period of 12 months
2. Landholders to have the right to refuse entry to mining
companies
3. The Great Artesian Basin be protected as a “no go zone”
“These measures will give certainty to all Queenslanders in
striking the right balance between the mining industries and the
rights of the landowner,” Mr McLindon said.
“No political party should sit back while this flawed industry
steamrolls Queensland communities.
“I now challenge both the ALP and the LNP to follow the
Australian Party’s lead and match this policy commitment to
ensure the science behind the health and environmental impacts
are fully considered before there are any further approvals for
this currently flawed industry.”
Federal Leader, Bob Katter, threw his support behind the party’s
state policy announcement stating the Australian Party will not
support a single well being drilled into the artesian basin so as
to ensure the future food and water security of the state was not
put at risk.
Mr McLindon first moved a motion in the Queensland Parliament in
November last year outlining a moratorium on the coal seam gas
industry which was rejected by both the ALP and the LNP.
