2012 Queensland Training Awards - Nominations Open
The search for Queensland's top training talent has kicked off,
with nominations opening today for the 51st Queensland Training
Awards.
Employment, Skills and Mining Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said
the awards recognise outstanding achievement in vocational
education and training, and encouraged employers, students,
teachers and providers who excel in these areas to enter.
"As the State Government's longest-running industry awards
program, the Queensland Training Awards continue to set the
training bar high and are growing in popularity - last year we
received 757 nominations, the largest response in five years," Mr
Hinchliffe said.
The 2011 award winners, including Brisbane-based Hutchinson
Builders, named Employer of the Year at the 2011 Australian
Training Awards, reflect the high standards of training in
Queensland.
"The Bligh Government's priority is to develop a skilled and
effective labour force to meet current and future industry
needs.
"Our Toward Q2 strategy also supports flexible post-school
learning opportunities and aims for three in every four
Queenslanders to hold a trade, training or tertiary qualification
by 2020.
"The Queensland Training Awards support these important
goals."
Mr Hinchliffe said it was important to foster the development of
high achieving students, teachers and businesses in vocational
education and training.
"The government, industry and education and training providers
are working together to address skill needs and to build the
capability of Queensland's workforce.
"Improving Queensland's skills base is crucial if we are to
remain competitive across a host of traditional and emerging
industries.
"Boosting the qualifications and skills of our workforce leads to
better services, healthier local economies and greater
opportunities for success."
Regional finals will be held throughout Queensland during July
and August, culminating in the state final in Brisbane on Friday
14 September. State winners will then compete in the Australian
Training Awards in Melbourne in November.
Nominations for the Queensland Training Awards close on 23 March
2012. For entry details and a full list of categories, visit
