$2.26 million in disaster assistance for Sunshine Coast

Minister for Local Government Desley Boyle today announced $2.26 million to help Sunshine Coast Regional Council meet the costs of repairs required after flooding in April 2009.

"Torrential rain and flash flooding left roads strewn with rubbish and debris. The rains also did major damage to roads and infrastructure throughout the region," Ms Boyle said.

"After the floods subsided council were left with a big job on their hands.

"Getting the work done quickly was essential to ensuring residents could get on with the day to day lives and the local economy wasn't severely impacted.

"The joint State and Federal funded Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements give councils the confidence they need to carry out repair works quickly in the aftermath of natural disaster events.

"Council have also played their part contributing $325,000 towards the cost of repairs."

Ms Boyle said repairs included:

*$525,000 of repairs to White Wood Court

*$295,000 of repairs to Livstonia Drive

*$422,000 of repairs to Cootharaba Road

*$136,000 of repairs to Black Mountain Road

"Not withstanding recent flood events, the Bligh Government has committed more than $302 million to help councils across Queensland rebuild infrastructure in the aftermath of natural disasters since January 2009," she said.

Note: Councils apply for NDRRA funding following the completion of eligible disaster emergency and repair work.
