Access to Nambour limited

Sunshine Coast Council’s Local Disaster Management Group Co-ordinator Mr Alan Rogers has advised that access to the Nambour Hospital is extremely limited.

“The only access road to the Hospital from the Coast is via the Bruce Highway taking the Parkland’s exit north to Nambour.

“With major rainfall moving from the Coast to the Hinterland, problems associated with waters rising very quickly have caused significant safety concerns this evening,” Mr Rogers said.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the West Woombye, Palmwoods, Eudlo and Nambour areas. At Maleny, the detour at Bridge Creek Road has been washed away

“I’m asking residents to remain indoors and avoid travelling on roads if at all possible.

“With the potential for similar rainfall tomorrow, please listen to local radio for regular updates about conditions and log on to the Bureau of Meteorology website for weather warnings.”

Council’s Facebook site at www.facebook.com/SunshineCoastCouncil is being updated regularly with information. You can also follow us on Twitter at @CouncilSCC.

In life threatening situations call Triple Zero (000) and for emergency assistance from SES call 132500.

Residents wanting to make enquiries about rates notices are asked to postpone contact with council and avoid website enquiries until after the weather event.

Parents are advised to check the Department of Education’s website or Facebook page in the morning for the most up-to-date advice about schools.
