Advocate For New Music Performs Old Masterpiece

Melbourne harpist Marshall McGuire, an avid promoter for new music, joins the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Caloundra to perform an old masterpiece.

Mr McGuire will perform Boieldieu’s charming Harp Concerto with the QSO at The Events Centre, Caloundra at 7pm on Friday 16 March. With guest conductor Nicholas Braithwaite, the Orchestra will also perform Haydn’s Symphony No.88 and Elgar’s Enigma Variations. This concert is Mr McGuire’s first performance in Caloundra and he is looking forward to the experience of performing Boieldieu’s Harp Concerto to a new audience. “Obviously this audience loves its concerts and music making, because the Orchestra travels there regularly, and I look forward to playing this great piece for them.”

“Audiences in Australia are very passionate about their music, and I enjoy meeting new audiences for the first time, and always enjoy the
anticipation of playing for new people in new places. It's also a great opportunity to introduce the harp to audiences who may not have heard one up close before,” Mr McGuire said.
Mr McGuire is acclaimed as one of the world’s leading harpists in contemporary and baroque repertoire. He is currently Director of Artistic Planning at Orchestra Victoria and he is the founding President of the New Music Network and a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra Artistic Advisory Committee. Mr McGuire has commissioned more than 30 new works for harp and in recognition
