Are you are a typical Sunshine Coast resident?
20 October 2009 Are you are a typical Sunshine Coast resident?
Find out in the latest issue of council's free newsletter Encompass -- due in letterboxes from this weekend.
The November issue tells you how to find the latest statistics about who lives on the Coast -- sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics -- for free on council's website.
The cover story uses this data to profile the typical Sunshine Coaster, using median age, income and house type. See if you fit the profile as well as our cover model, Noosa lifeguard Max Pettigrove.
Vital statistics like these are being put to good use as council begins work on the first planning scheme for the whole of the region.
Encompass spells out what these plans hope to achieve and how you can have your say on a series of issues ranging from climate change and biodiversity to affordable housing, sustainable transport and healthy waterways.
With summer approaching, Encompass features a run-down on everything council is doing to keep mosquitoes in check. It's an ongoing battle thanks to our climate and abundance of mangroves, but council has invested $1 million in mosquito control measures this year alone.
And summer wouldn't be summer without.... sport! The PGA Golf Championship at Coolum is just one of the big-hitting events council is keen to keep on the Sunshine Coast. Read about others that are coming, bringing big tourism dollars with them.
More highlights include:
* An invitation to celebrations planned for the launch of the new-look Nambour
* A 15 year old Coast girl about to open her first solo exhibition of ink drawings
* What's cooking at the Sunshine Coast airport
* New water limits for Coast residents
* How your $60 Environment Levy is being spent
* A must-see What's On listing for events happening around the Coast
If you haven't received your copy of the November issue of Encompass by Monday 2 November, give council a call on 5475 7272 or pick a copy up from your local council office or library.
