Attorney-General to appeal Perini sentence
Today I have lodged an appeal in the Court of Appeal in Brisbane against the sentences imposed on Maurizio Perini for manslaughter, burglary with circumstances of aggravation, burglary and stealing, and interference with a corpse.
The grounds of this appeal are that these sentences fail to reflect the gravity of the offences and that the sentencing judge gave too much weight to factors of mitigation.
As I said last month at the time of sentencing, aspects of this case are greatly disturbing and require further consideration through the appeal process.
The court will set the date for the appeal.
I will not be making any further comment as the matter is now before the courts.
