Australia Day 2012 Special Significance For Buderim
Not only will the Buderim community be turning out for its
Australia Day Parade this Thursday, it will be highlighting the
day by celebrating Buderim’s 150th Anniversary.
Buderim’s popular Australia Day Parade was seen as the perfect
opportunity to launch B150, as it has become known, with a
year-long celebration of events and initiatives.
The Buderim War Memorial Community Association (BWMCA) is the
organisation responsible for conceiving and planning the B150
celebrations with well-known and long-term Buderim resident Simon
Whittle the driving force.
“The idea was put together by the BWMCA which then established
the B150 Steering Committee, a team of dedicated and enthusiastic
volunteers who have worked quietly and tirelessly behind the
scenes for two years to pull it all together.” Simon Whittle
said.
“We saw Buderim’s 150th Anniversary as an opportunity to
reconnect with our past and define our future as a thriving
community. From a social and cultural perspective, the B150
celebrations will be geared to enhance and reinforce our pride in
all those things that have been achieved to make Buderim such a
special and unique community.” ENDS
