Beautiful day for U2 fans in Queensland

Sport Minister Phil Reeves has welcomed today's announcement that will see international super-group U2 perform at Suncorp Stadium on 8 December.

"The Bligh Government's investment in major entertainment and sports infrastructure has been further rewarded today," Mr Reeves said.

"U2 has a massive fan base in Queensland and I know they'll be lining up to purchase tickets for what will be an amazing concert at Suncorp Stadium.

"And why wouldn't you want to perform in Queensland - we've got great infrastructure, great tourist destinations, and great beaches. Obviously, U2 can't help falling in love with the Sunshine State."

Mr Reeves said the exciting news comes 'hot on the heels' of last month's announcement that Bon Jovi will play at the Stadium, also in December.

"Queensland music fans will be able to see two quality world-class acts within a week," he said.

"It is appropriate that the promoter, Live Nation, the largest live entertainment company in the world, chose a world-class venue to launch the first blockbuster tour of its new Australian business.

"U2 and Bon Jovi, and before that Robbie Williams, The Police and Andre Rieu are proof that if you build it, they will come."

Mr Reeves said the concert announcement was not only great news for the many thousands of U2 fans but for local businesses, job creation and the local economy.

"A recent economic analysis shows the state's major sport and entertainment venues pump more than $308 million into the Queensland economy."

The Minister also pointed out that the same 10.30pm curfew and noise control measures for previous concerts would apply for the U2 concert.

"The Stadium will engage specialist acoustic consultants to assist in the management of noise control," he said.

"As part of that process, sound engineers will be at the control panel during the concerts and will be in communication with technicians monitoring noise levels at various locations outside the Stadium to ensure levels remain compliant with E.P.A (noise) guidelines."
