BETTER MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR QUEENSLANDERS
Disability Services Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk today officially opened the Mental Health Association Queensland's (MHAQ) new premises at Annerley on Brisbane's southside.
Ms Palaszczuk said the MHAQ had been delivering crucial services to Queenslanders with a mental illness for almost 50 years.
"The Mental Health Association Queensland has provided quality early intervention mental health services and programs since 1961," she said.
"More recently, the association created its own Australian College of Community Services, which build the skills and knowledge of the health workforce.
"These new premises in Annerley consolidate its services into one central location, which will mean better outcomes for people affected by mental illness."
MsPalaszczuk said the Bligh Government was committed to delivering improved community mental health services.
"The 2009-10 State Budget earmarked $26.1 million for community mental health services," she said.
"We provide $755,000 in recurrent funding to help MHAQ deliver education, counselling and support services.
"These investments are a sign of the Bligh Government's commitment to creating a healthier Queensland."
State Member for Yeerongpilly Simon Finn said the MHAQ's new premises would deliver a welcome boost to local training opportunities.
"These new premises are a win for the local community," he said. "They'll deliver better mental health services, more training opportunities and better health outcomes for Queenslanders," he said.
