Buddina Community Garden Starts With Working Bee

STAGE one of the Buddina Community Garden will commence with a working bee this Sunday 5th February at Kevin Asmus Park, Buddina.

Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie has supported the project during the negotiations with Council and will be on site to lend a hand on Sunday.

"It is great to see stage one of the community garden is ready to open," Mr Bleijie said.

"The Buddina garden follows on from the success of similar projects around the Coast at Yandina, Cotton Tree and Peregian.

"A community garden will provide residents with an opportunity to pool their resources and interact with their neighbours.

"The cost to build and maintain the gardens will be met with sponsorship by local businesses and donations from residents," Mr Bleijie said.

Mr Bleijie will present a personal sponsorship cheque of $200 at Sunday's working bee.

"This will be an opportunity for the Buddina community to work together on a project to benefit their local community and also provide for some respite at the same time," he said.

"It will be a great use of part of Kevin Asmus Park, with 45 garden beds made from water tanks, a chicken pen, solar electricity generator and a special turtle shaped rainwater tank bed for children to grow their own vegetables.

"It's great to see a community project that promotes sustainability and interaction between neighbours.

"I hope the weather is kind to us and we have a great response from the Buddina community on Sunday.

"Bring along your shovel and wheelbarrow," Mr Bleijie said.

Residents are also reminded to wear a hat and closed footwear.  Soft drinks will be available on the day.
