Buderim Historical Society Photo Competition FOr B150 "Buderim Then & Now"

As part of Buderim's 150th Anniversary Celebrations throughout 2012 Buderim Historical Society is holding an exciting  and novel photo competition.

Entrants must be amateur photographers and must submit two photographs of a Buderim scen - one from the “past”, taken by someone prior to 1961 and one from the “present” of the same location taken in 2012 by the entrant personally. Entries are free and each entrant may submit up to three entries.

“Past” photos may be sourced from anywhere, such as personal collections, the Sunshine Coast Regional Library at Nambour or through the Buderim Historical Society (a copy fee may apply) and it is quite okay if they include people.

"The Historical Society is encouraging prospective entrants to rummage through granny's old photo albums to find suitable “past” photos and then go out and take an up-to-date one of the same location.

"We are quite excited at the prospect of some long lost photos being unearthed," said the President of Buderim Historical Society, Prue Cawley.

"There will be three categories: Open, Under 18 and Photographic Student and there will be two cash prizes of  $100.00 and $50.00 in each section and we are hoping that Buderim school students will get into the swing of it and show their imagination with the camera as well as learn something of Buderim's rich history while sorting through old photos of yesteryear," Ms Cawley said.

Prior to the judging, short-listed entries will be displayed at Buderim's  Old Post Office and subsequently at Buderim Pioneer Cottage for the Back to Buderim celebrations in May.

Entry forms are available at Pioneer Cottage, the Old Post Office, TAFE Colleges and the University and enquiries to  Buderim Historical Society President Prue Cawley on 54451342.
