Bulcock Beach shines after $8.5m redevelopment
3 December 2009 Bulcock Beach shines after $8.5m redevelopment
The $8.5 million redevelopment of one of the region's most popular beachside precincts -- Bulcock Beach Esplanade -- will be officially opened just in time for the busy Christmas holiday season.
Local Government Minister Desley Boyle and Sunshine Coast Deputy Mayor Tim Dwyer will conduct the opening ceremony at 2.30pm on Sunday, 6 December.
Councillor Dwyer said the project was co-funded by the state government through a $4.25million grant under Queensland's 150th Legacy Infrastructure Program.
"This partnership between council and the Queensland Government has delivered excellent outcomes for residents and visitors to Bulcock Beach as well as for the local business community and the wider region,'' Cr Dwyer said.
"This master-planned redevelopment has greatly enhanced one of our region's most beautiful waterfront precincts."
Major Projects Portfolio holder, Councillor Debbie Blumel, said the project was a good example of how council and the Queensland Government are working together to put important infrastructure in place for Sunshine Coast communities.
"This project, along with many others currently underway -- such as the Cooroy Library, the Coolum Resource Centre and the Noosa Junction Transit Centre, demonstrates our commitment to providing the infrastructure and resources our region needs for the future."
Highlights of the Bulcock Beach redevelopment include:
the reconstruction and expansion of the boardwalk area
improved picnic areas
enhanced pedestrian access
improved car park facilities and
new beach showers.
Cr Dwyer said council extended its thanks to the local business community and to residents for their patience during the project works.
"This is an $8.5 million investment in a long and prosperous future for this popular part of our region. We have created and enhanced some wonderful public space and added new facilities while respecting the environmental values of the area and retaining its traditional appeal."
Caloundra Tourism president Mike Wilkinson said the Bulcock Beach Redevelopment will bring a great boost to tourism and the local economy.
"The Esplanade redevelopment, along with the cafes and restaurants, retail outlets and accommodation houses, has created an excellent destination for holidaymakers as well as locals,'' Mr Wilkinson said.
"With only a short walk from the CBD to Bulcock Beach and a scenic stroll from there around to Kings Beach -- Caloundra is really ready for a huge holiday season."
