Campbell Newman desperate over LNP coal seam gas disunity

State Leader of Katter’s Australian Party, Aidan McLindon MP, said today that coal seam gas policy was continuing to cause disunity within the LNP under Campbell Newman’s leadership.

Mr McLindon also said that Campbell Newman’s visit to the Scenic Rim was simply a desperate attempt to conceal the LNP’s pro-coal seam gas platform.

"Just two weeks ago over a thousand locals covered the Scenic Rim with anti-CSG messages and the LNP was nowhere to be seen.”

“Now, only days after a third LNP MP has left the party, Campbell decides to rush out and make an announcement that only ‘appropriate’ CSG developments will be undertaken in the Scenic Rim. This leaves the doors wide open to coal seam gas,” said Mr McLindon.

“Only three days ago a man of courage and conviction, Shane Knuth, blew the lid on Newman’s procoal seam gas mining policies,” said Mr McLindon.

“Mr Newman is now deceitfully pretending to protect the Scenic Rim. Yet the fine print on his own policy clearly states that the LNP will plan for coal seam gas developments in the region.”

“Under Newman’s dictatorship, the LNP has even shutdown debate within the ranks of its elected Members. Member for Warrego, Howard Hobbs, put forward a proposal for coal seam gas companies to pay proper compensation to landholders. Campbell said no.”

“The Member for Condamine, Ray Hopper, has also publicly called for a moratorium on CSG but today, yet again, Campbell said no.”

“There is angst within the ranks of LNP MPs over coal seam gas but careers are being put ahead of the electorate’s wishes. The only solution is to remove weak representatives from the Parliament and this is what Katter’s Australian Party will do.”

“The Australian Party will impose a coal seam gas moratorium and will protect the Scenic Rim, Golden Triangle or Darling Downs. Campbell Newman has failed to match this position and the only certainty under his policy is that there will be coal seam gas wells constructed in these areas.”

“At the next election Queenslanders who want to see the back of Labor can place their trust in the word of Bob Katter and the Australian Party, or they can gamble on Campbell’s Liberal Party."

  1. the headline should really read "Aidan Mclindon desperate to save himself from being voted out"

  2. All he is doing it for is for votes, and in the fine print, it says that they can still do it anyway, only in 'suitable' areas. Another 'political loophole' he can exploit. Pathetic.

  3. I dare Campbell Newman to announce a moratorium on CSG in the Mary catchment , Warren Truss , Alex Somerlay , Ian Macdonald , Dave Gibson , Glen Elmes , Ted sorrenson , are all LNP members who screamed about what Traveston Dam would do to the Mary river.

If Truss , Somerlay and Macdonald vote against Tony Windsor and Larissa Waters CSG bills , they will prove their environmental hypocrite credentials
