Cat registration free for first year
1 July 2009 Cat registration free for first year
Thanks to a Sunshine Coast Regional Council amnesty, cat owners can register their pets free of charge for the first year.
A new State Government law requiring cats to be registered comes into force across Queensland from today (1 July 2009).
However, council has voted to have an amnesty on cat registration fees for the next 12 months from 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2010.
Although the law has been imposed by the Queensland Government, it will be council's responsibility to ensure that cats, as well as dogs, are registered.
Sunshine Coast cat owners are encouraged to register their feline friends before 30 September 2009, in order to comply with the new law.
Cat owners are encouraged to register their cats on-line. The registration form can be accessed on council's website: www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au
The purpose of registration is to "reunite lost cats... with their owners more easily", according to the new law.
