Catch Public Transport and Get Home Safely this Australia Day
Queenslanders heading out to Australia Day festivities this
Thursday are being encouraged to say g’day to public transport,
especially if enjoying a few drinks around the barbie with their
mates.
TransLink Acting CEO Matt Longland has reminded South East
Queenslanders using public transport to familiarise themselves
with TransLink’s additional rail services and altered bus, train
and ferry timetables on the Australia Day public holiday,
Thursday January 26.
“TransLink’s different operators will have varying service levels
on Thursday, with additional rail services in place to convey
people to and from the Australia Day festivities at Doomben
Racecourse,” Mr Longland said.
“If you plan to catch public transport on Thursday, make sure you
call the TransLink call centre on 13 12 30, 24 hours a day, seven
days a week, or visit www.translink.com.au to ensure you are
across the arrangements.
“Revellers can easily avoid the hassle of driving and trying to
find a park, particularly when there is such a diverse range of
public transport options available.
“Commuters will also save, as off-peak fares will apply to all
public transport services on Australia Day.
“All TransLink operators will work to Sunday or public holiday
timetables on Thursday, and NightLink services will not be
operating.
“There will be an additional rail service departing Gympie North
station at 6am, running express from Caboolture to Bowen Hills
and arriving at Roma Street at 8.53am and additional trains
between Central and Doomben stations to help get people to and
from the Australia Day festivities at Doomben.
“Brisbanites descending on the Story Bridge Hotel for the 30th
anniversary of the cockroach races or any other Australia Day
BBQ’s or festivities around South East Queensland have been urged
to catch public transport to avoid the hassle of driving and
trying to find a park.”
Mr Longland said is also reminding commuters that disruptions are
also expected to CityCat and Inner City Ferry services due to the
flag raising and gun salute from 11.50am - 12.10pm.

public holiday, visit www.translink.com.au or call TransLink on
