Cate Molloy Letter Re: Qld Gov Ugly Land Tax Grab
12 March 2010 Cate Molloy Letter Re: Qld Gov Ugly Land Tax Grab
As a former member of the Beattie-Bligh Government, time after time I personally witnessed Beattie make no bones about the way the Qld Labor Government imposed hidden taxes as a revenue raiser. He repeatedly blamed the then Conservative Federal Government because he claimed Queensland did not receive its share of Federal Government funding. He claimed Land Tax was one of the few ways his government could obtain money without looking really ugly because it was "a silent tax". As a consequence Queensland has and continues to suffer serious financial mismanagement. It can't possibly all be sheeted home to the financial crisis. Premier Bligh is now so desperate to keep her so-called Labor Government in power purely for powers sake that she now plays the same dirty game. As a result the Bligh "Labor" government with its privatization process and now this greedy attempt to screw more money out of the Tax Payer (via its retrospective `Valuation of Land and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2010) is no more Labor than its conservative counter parts. At least with a conservative government you know where it stands in ideology and action. Not so with Blighs government, it only serves the self interest of its members so I can't wait to hear from the Labor apologists this time. Can a real Labor person please stand up!
