CCIQ backs Australian Party payroll tax reduction plan
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland has backed the
Australian Party’s payroll tax reduction plan, refuting Treasurer
Andrew Fraser’s assessment that it would result in a $900 million
revenue loss in its first year of implementation.
“The CCIQ’s support of the Katter’s Australian Party payroll tax
reduction plan demonstrates that at last there is a party focused
on restoring business and industry in Queensland. The CCIQ’s
estimate comes in at $300 million and is very similar to our
costing for this initiative” said State Leader, Aidan
McLindon.
“Over 7,500 businesses from all sectors will receive relief under
the Australian Party plan to lift the threshold to $2 million and
this would make Queensland the most attractive place in Australia
for businesses to operate.”
“Andrew Fraser is clearly out of touch with his own portfolio
because the Government’s own figures show that this reduction
will only cut payroll tax revenue by about 7 per cent equating to
$236 million whilst boosting employment opportunities across the
state giving employers the ability to expand their
businesses.”
“A future Katter’s Australian Party State Government will deliver
this important taxation reform for Queensland businesses. This is
in addition to our announcement that the Australian Party will
scrap the wasteful $620 million dollar Year 7 transition to high
school, which is completely unnecessary and will not improve
education in Queensland.”
“Nothing will change in Queensland under the LNP because they
have the same wasteful, shortsighted approach to government
spending and that is why Katter’s Australian Party will be
attractive to voters on March 24.”
“It is the only party that is interested in protecting the
state’s assets, assisting families and family businesses,
improving the manufacturing, tourism and agricultural sectors.
This party is the only party with the principles to stand up to
blatant land and cash grabs from foreign companies, especially in
the coal seam gas industry.”
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland has been lobbying
since 2009 to have the payroll tax threshold increased from $1m
to $2 million.
