Christmas in Cooroy with a Twist of Heritage

November 2008    Christmas in Cooroy with a Twist of Heritage

If you haven’t ever been to a Christmas in Cooroy event then you don’t know what you are missing out on!  Cooroy businesses and community groups are coming together to present the fifth Christmas in Cooroy event on Saturday 5th December from 4pm in Apex Park.  Each year has grown and this year is no different.  And because nearly everything is free it is one of the premier festive events on the Coast.

This year a heritage theme has been added to the event to celebrate some of Cooroy’s milestones.  Those wishing to get into the heritage theme are urged to wear Australian heritage clothing on the day.  There will also be heritage displays in the Cooroy Butter Factory from 10am to 4pm with an official opening of the “Cooroy....then and now” exhibition at 3pm which includes heritage clothing, heritage photos and the Guardian Pharmacy Photographic Competition entries.

Cooroy was founded from the timber industry so the boiler house at the Lower Mill Site will be open to the public for the first time allowing people to go on a self-guided tour and see the fabulous work done on the restored and heritage listed boiler and kilns.  The Cooroora Woodworkers and Sunshine Coast Camphor Laurel Initiative will also be open from 8am to 4pm at the Mill Site with woodworking demonstrations and displays of their products.  And the Rothwells Woodworking Club from Redcliffe is also visiting the Cooroora Woodworkers.

The Noosa to Hinterland Plumbing Group Great Santa Race has also been added to the program with $1,400 in cash prizes up for grabs. And until the end of November you can also play a round of golf at the Cooroy Golf Club using heritage clubs for a chance to win great prizes.

And of course all the same favourites are still on the program including rides, face painting, magic by Ben Wright, loads of giveaways, competitions, woodchop demonstration, the Bendigo Bank Street Parade, local band Rust, a Santa visit and fireworks. Plus there are also plenty of opportunities to win big with the Cooroy Central Guardian Pharmacy Photographic Competition, the MelcoLanhams Mitre 10 Christmas Lights Competition and the People’s Choice Vote for the Queensland Media Print Decorate Your Shop Competition.  All of these activities are free!

More details are available on the Christmas in Cooroy page of www.cooroy.com.au. The entire event has been funded by over 30 businesses which is an example of Cooroy’s great community spirit.  A big thank you must go to the Rotary Club of Cooroy and the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce who host the event and also to the sponsors who have funded everything from insurance and toilets to professional entertainment and fireworks:  Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Bendigo Bank, Cooroy Rag, Luke’s Supa IGA, Victory Hotel, Zinc 96.1FM, Noosa to Hinterland Plumbing, Cooroy Mountain Spring Water, Wimmers, Ricon Contractors Pty Ltd, Cooroy Central Guardian Pharmacy, Bistro Bistro, ISSA Creations, David Lafferty of Hinternoosa, Telstra Countrywide, MelcoLanhams, Kennards Hire, Ritek Building Solutions, Gelignite Jacks, QMP, Cooroy Travel, Town and Country Home Rentals, I-ree-lee-assist, Picture of Health, Firefly Solutions, Hinternoosa, Cooroy Fruit Bowl, Cudgerie Homestead, Rykenberg Jewellers, Music2Grow, Splashes of Sunshine, SPV Accounting and Eureka Fashion
