Clean-up efforts mean most beaches now open
17 March 2009 Clean-up efforts mean most beaches now open
The reopening today of the Boardwalk Beach north of the Town of Seaside means 15 council patrolled beaches are now open, which had been temporarily closed due to the effects of the recent oil spill.
It was also confirmed today that Marcoola Beach has the official all-clear and Queensland Surf Life Saving patrols will recommence there on Saturday as scheduled.
The Kings Beach pool at Caloundra is also open.
It is anticipated that Sunshine Coast Council efforts in assisting the clean-up being coordinated by Maritime Safety Queensland will see all remaining beaches opened over the next few days.
Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is the lead agency responsible for coordinating the oil spill clean-up. People seeking any further information should contact MSQ on 1800 216 723.
Until further notice from the state government, people are advised to keep away from the beaches signposted as closed.

13 March 2009 Festival on -- but some beaches to stay closed
The Sunshine Coast Council is advising people to heed warning signs on a number of closed beaches and waterways south of Peregian following the oil spill impacting on the region's shoreline.
Noosa Main Beach is expected to remain open across the weekend, and with the National Park point breaks unaffected by the oil spill, the Noosa Festival of Surfing will be held as scheduled.

Council is supporting the multi-agency operation and is devoting all available resources to the clean-up efforts, which will continue for a number of days. Council is also thanking the many people who have volunteered to help, however cannot accept those offers at this stage of the state-led operation. Volunteers may be required at a later stage and advice will be relayed via local media at the appropriate time.
Until further notice from the state government, people are advised to keep away from beaches and waterways that are signposted as closed
