Cooroy Township Hit Hard by Thunderstorm
A severe thunder storm that swept across the Sunshine Coast this
afternoon caused considerable damage to buildings in Maple
Street, Cooroy.
Division 12 Councillor Lew Brennan advised that three businesses
in the main street have lost their roofs and a number of other
premises were damaged.
“Fortunately no serious injuries or deaths have been reported,”
Cr Brennan said.
“Emergency Services personnel and council crews will working late
into the night to clean up the debris, tarp roofs and restore
power.
“There is also some minor damage in nearby Tewantin, with a
number of damaged roofs and trees and power lines down.
“Energex advises that power outages may continue into tomorrow
morning around the district.”
Local Disaster Coordinator Alan (Fox) Rogers said that council
established a small coordination centre to help respond to the
event and assist with clean up and recovery.
Mr Rogers advised people not to go near fallen power lines and to
take care on the roads.
