The Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce held a networking dinner meeting at Ebb Waterfront Dining and Cellar on Wednesday, March 3.
A highlight from the evening was a presentation by Sunshine Coast Regional Council, which gave an informative update on the Coast's Structure Plans, Maroochydore's status as our Principal Activity Centre and the region's Economic Development Policy.
Council strategic planning staff announced that Maroochydore's structure plan would be released next week for council to seek community feedback before it is reviewed in June/July.
Staff also highlighted the importance of Maroochydore as the Principal Activity Centre (PAC).
As the PAC, Maroochydore is expected to accommodate key concentrations of employment, major retailing, regional offices for government and regionally significant health, education, cultural and entertainment facilities.
Council economic development staff focused on how the council contributes to the region's economic development.
This is done through planning, regulating local laws and policies, funding, economic development initiatives such as the Rural Action Plan, and advocacy for regional initiatives, including the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Sunshine Coast Industrial Park.
The dinner attracted around 85 members and guests, who were given the opportunity to make new contacts, refresh existing business relationships and enjoy superb food while overlooking the beautiful Maroochy River.
