Council Needs To Bring Community Along With It If Junction To Become Vibrant
A roundtable workshop with residents, business owners and live music enthusiasts has come up with some key priorities for Council's planning for the Noosa Junction and one of them is that Council must slow down and bring the community along with it.
Building on the large community forum last month the workshop formed a working group to further concepts of how to turn the Junction in to a local cultural hub. Even local business owners agreed that just rushing through a facelift would do nothing to make the place it could be into the future. Paying for it by selling of public land was even less popular.
There were some clear lines drawn in the sand. The community will not support any plans to sell of public land, nor will it accept a plan for public private partnerships on such land. .
According to Noosa Residents and Ratepayers Association President Brian Stockwell, "it was unanimously agreed that we have far too few public asserts around the Junction to be selling it off before the community has had a proper chance to agree on its highest and best use. "
Council has postponed a planned community consultation event and that will give the group time to make all Councillors aware that consultation to date has not adequately involved the community in a proper Noosa style deliberative process.
"We want to work with Council on this, but if they rush through this plan with some of the bitter pills still in it they will have a fight on their hands." Mr Stockwell said.
