Dear Vaughan, the National Party no longer exists
State Leader for Katter’s Australian Party, Aidan McLindon, today
reminded long time Member for Gregory, Vaughan Johnson, that the
National Party no longer existed.
Mr McLindon said that the Liberal-Newman takeover saw the
majority of regional representatives dumped from Shadow
Cabinet.
“Today on radio we heard Vaughan plead with the Liberal Leader to
put Lawrence Springborg, Howard Hobbs and himself into cabinet so
that regional Queensland was better represented,” Mr McLindon
said.
“Vaughan now obviously realises the Libs have no interest in
rural and regional issues.”
“Vaughan does not support privatisation, the flawed coal seam gas
industry or more restrictions on firearms owners. But the penny
has finally dropped that he is just another number in a Liberal
Party takeover.”
“Vaughan’s problem is that he is now supporting a leader who has
not spent one day in the parliament and who supports everything
that goes against the beliefs of the former National Party,” Mr
McLindon said.
“It’s unfortunate and embarrassing for Vaughan that he has become
part of a machine that killed the National Party voice and now
he’s found out the hard way that when you lie down with dogs
you’ll wake up feeling pretty itchy.”
“It will only get worse for Vaughan and regional Queenslanders
under Newman because after the next election the LNP will be
totally dominated by Liberals living in Brisbane. Vaughan is
dreaming if he thinks Newman will start listening to him in the
future.”
