Easter school holiday fun
18 March 2010 Easter school holiday fun @ Eumundi Markets
Kids craft classes, an Easter treasure hunt, Mad Hatter stallholders, great live music, fabulous food and serious retail therapy. Visitors to The Original Eumundi Markets are in for a great time in the upcoming Easter school holidays.
Market Manager Peter Homan says Easter Saturday April 3 will be an exciting day at Eumundi Markets, with the annual Easter treasure hunt from 8am for children visiting Eumundi Markets.
"The treasure hunt is open to the first 300 kids who register at the market office on the day," says Peter.
"Treasure hunters be given clues and they'll find the answers as they wander through the markets," he says. "When they cross the finish line, they'll each receive a delicious chocolate bilby, handmade by The Chocolate Chalet."
To take the Easter theme a step further, many market stallholders will be wearing weird and wonderfully decorated hats. An Easter bonnet parade with a Mad Hatter twist!
Crafty kids visiting Eumundi Markets over the school holidays will also the opportunity to get creative by taking part in kids craft workshops, which will be run each Wednesday and Saturday morning market over the holiday period, starting Saturday 27 March.
The workshops are being led by local craft queens Merrie Tomkins (ceramic artist) and Fiona Hocking (felt artist). While they are designed for children, big kids (teenagers and adults) are welcome to take part too -- if spaces permit. Children under five must be accompanied by a carer -- to help them with the tricky bits!
"Merrie teaches people how to paint their own ceramics -- funky pots and plates, piggy banks, and more," Peter says. "She will have egg cups for Easter, and a range of options for those wanting to make a personalised gift."
"Fiona will host felting workshops showing how to make felt Easter eggs, felt balls, hair accessories and other gorgeous homewares guaranteed to appeal to crafty souls of all ages," he says.
Spaces are limited, so market visitors are advised to book in at the market tent (below the market office) on arrival in Eumundi. You can pre-book for a workshop time later in the day.
As the biggest and best market in Australia, Eumundi is renowned for its quality art and craft -- with stalls selling products for visitors of all ages. And when you need a break from the shopping, sit back and be entertained by a stellar line-up of performers guaranteed to get you in the groove.
