First moonlight markets for 2011 a howling success

Great music, fine food and wine, lively company, what more could you want on a Friday night?

The smell of glorious international cuisine filled the air as people filled the streets on 28 January for the first Moonlight Markets of 2011.

Market Coordinator Helen Langlois said it was great to see some new stallholders at the markets as well as lots of new faces in the crowd, people came from all over the Coast and even Brisbane.

"The market just keeps growing and growing and there's so much local support---it's a real local success story," Ms Langlois said.

"The markets are held on the last Friday of every month from 5pm and the range of stalls, food and entertainment just keeps getting better and better, it's a real night out.

"Phil Emmanuel was the highlight, playing alongside his TAFE master class students before firing up the crowd with his own personal style.

"The town square was alive with people dancing and enjoying the music from the stage side wine bar. I guess the next question is what's planned for the next one---watch this space!"

Food stalls boast Thai, German, Italian, Japan and Australia cuisine and the markets are the regular home of some real local favourites, with that much choice there really is something for every pallet.

For those keen to spend a penny or two, browse stalls selling rocking horses, exquisite jewellery, original clothing, beauty products, speciality foods, homewares and that's just for starters.

Kids love the roving entertainers, always ready to make a balloon animal or two.

Helen Langlois said that the Moonlight Markets are becoming known as a complete night out for all ages and a real alternative to heading to the Coast for the evening.

"What more can I say, they're free, they're fun and they're on every month."
