Fisher Australia Day Awards Sees Record Nominations
A record number of 42 awards will be presented by Member for
Fisher Peter Slipper during the 13th Annual Fisher Australia Day
Awards ceremony held at 2:30 pm at the Lake Kawana Community
Centre today, with some extraordinary volunteers and student
athletes being honoured.
“I am always humbled and honoured to be able to present the
Fisher Australia Day Awards to these remarkable Sunshine Coast
residents” said Mr Slipper. “This year’s record number of
nominations shows again the strength of our community’s core
through selfless volunteering and outstanding athletic
achievements. These dedicated and hard‐working residents don’t
seek recognition for what they do, but Australia Day gives us an
opportunity to thank and acknowledge them publicly.”
For the past 13 years, nominations have been sought from the
community for consideration for the Fisher Australia Day Awards.
Nominees are recognised for their contributions in the areas of
community service, industry and commerce, the arts, sport and
recreation, and work with seniors’ groups, sporting clubs and
youth organisations. New this year is the presentation of the
Australian Government’s grants for $500 each to 13 “Local
Sporting Champions”.
Mr Slipper will begin his day by conducting the Maleny
Citizenship Ceremony and Kawana Citizenship Ceremony, followed by
the afternoon Fisher Australia Day Awards Ceremony.
