Foreign-Owned Coal Seam Gas Companies Risking Qld Fracking banned in New York State, linked to earthquakes in England
Queensland Party Leader, Aidan McLindon, has increased pressure
on the Queensland Government to act and impose a moratorium on
coal seam gas operations until the full health and environmental
impacts of the process are known.
“The one thing the Labor Party keeps telling us is that we need
to keep up with the rest of the world on environmental
protection. Well, the rest of the world is halting coal seam gas
mining. New York State has just extended its moratorium and
mining operations in England have been stopped due to concerns
that the underground fracking process is causing earthquakes,”
said Mr McLindon.
“This follows action by France and South Africa to also end this
form of mining.”
“Yet in Queensland, the Bligh Government has actually eased
environmental standards and is allowing companies, such as
British Gas, to have free reign on Queensland’s farming land and
private properties when its own country is tightening
provisions.”
“Queensland’s mineral resources are being dug up at the expense
of Queensland farmers and property owners, and the Bligh
Government doesn’t even have the common sense to ensure the
profits stay here because the companies are overseas
owned.”
“To make matters worse, the LNP opposition has completely
supported the Labor Government on this issue. Not one Member of
Parliament from the ALP or LNP is prepared to stand up for
Queensland. They are only standing up for themselves and jobs for
the boys. That is why Campbell Newman has the former PR guru from
the British Gas owned QGC working for him now.”
“The only party in parliament putting the long-term interests of
Queensland first is The Queensland Party.”
