Greens Sunshine Coast campaign launch
The Queensland Greens will launch six outstanding local
candidates in their Sunshine Coast campaign launch today, with
federal Greens Senator for Queensland Larissa Waters and Greens
lead candidate Adam Stone for Mt Coot-tha.
In listening to voters across the state, the Greens have heard
that Queenslanders are most concerned about health, coal seam gas
mining and future economic growth, and these issues are
highlighted by community concerns throughout various Sunshine
Coast electorates.
“I am delighted that the Sunshine Coast has such strong
candidates to be a Green voice in Queensland Parliament,” Senator
Waters said.
“The Greens at the federal level have achieved a carbon package
to finally put a price on pollution, a study into high speed rail
along the east coast and steps towards Denticare for all
Australians –imagine what we could achieve with Greens
representatives in Queensland.”
“People are now realising that a vote for either of the old
parties will only give us more of the same,” Greens lead
candidate Adam Stone said.
“If voters really want a new direction, new ideas and a new life
for the state of Queensland, they should vote Green at the state
election and direct their preferences however they wish.”
Queensland Greens candidate for Glass House Stewart Luke welcomed
the support he had seen in the electorate for the carbon package
and a price on pollution.
“The fundamental reason for the package was to invest in
renewable energy technologies and to move away from fossil fuels
– like coal seam gas,” Mr Luke said.
“CSG is not a transition fuel. It is still a fossil fuel and may
yet prove to be as detrimental through its life cycle as other
fossil fuels.”
“Queensland will miss this opportunity to be a world leader in
the renewable energy industry if current state government policy
stays in place, which will happen if either the ALP or LNP retain
power after the upcoming election,” said Greens candidate for
Caloundra, Allan McKay.
“With over 80% of Queensland covered by mining exploration
permits, it's no wonder that most Queenslanders are concerned
about the destructive effect this industry will have. The QLD
Greens are calling for a moratorium on CSG while its potential
environmental and social impacts are properly
investigated.”
“A strong state economy is supported by strong local
economies, and giving residents the ability to be engaged with
their neighbours and their local businesses is a key element of
Greens policies, such as high quality public transport,” said
Kawana candidate Gabrielle Roberts.
"The Greens are about keeping people out of hospitals, not only
providing first-class care in hospitals – we will make sure other
treatment resources are available and better support our
hard-working GPs and public medical centres,” said Buderim
candidate Sue Etheridge.
All Sunshine Coast Greens candidates are committed to working
effectively with MPs from the other parties and with local
councils.
"It is only through this effort that we will promote meaningful
and smart solutions to ensure future generations of Queenslanders
have clean air, clean water and clean soil. And we will work in
many other areas to champion integrity, fairness, good health,
prosperity, and a sustainable, progressive society,” said Mr
Stone.
