Heavy rainfall expected into the evening and overnight
Local Disaster Management Group Co-ordinator Mr Alan Rogers has
confirmed that up to 270mm rainfall since 9am today has resulted
in road closures across the region, however we have had no major
river flooding.
“As rainfall continues into this evening localised flash flooding
and possible landslips are anticipated,” Mr Rogers said.
“Do not cross a flooded road. Remember, if it is flooded –
forget it.
Sunshine Coast Council will operate an after hours call service
with road crews on standby.
SES has received over 100 requests for assistance in the
Caloundra area and 30 in the Maroochydore area.
“These calls have required help with leaking roofs, and damage
from flash flooding caused by stormwater build up,” Mr Rogers
said.
Motorists are asked to consider the need for travel and remain
indoors if possible.
Listen to local radio for regular updates about conditions and
log on to the Bureau of Meteorology website for
weather warnings.
Council’s Facebook site at www.facebook.com/SunshineCoastCouncil
is being updated regularly with information about road closures.
You can also follow us on Twitter at @CouncilSCC for
updates.
In life threatening situations call Triple Zero (000) and for
emergency assistance from SES call 132500.
Residents wanting to make enquiries about rates notices are asked
to postpone contact with council and avoid website enquiries
until after the weather event.
