Sunshine Coast Council is committed to making roads safer in
Coolum Beach.
Integrated Transport Systems Portfolio and Division 9 Councillor
Vivien Griffin said works will commence next week on the first of
a two stage traffic calming project in the local area.
“Council is focused on improving the safety of the road network
for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians within the Coolum Beach
region’s boundaries,” Cr Griffin said.
“Traffic calming works to encourage safer driving along a number
of streets within the local area will include intersection
improvements and pathway and pedestrian refuge
installations.
“The goal is to lower average traffic speeds, reduce the number
and severity of accidents and lower the volume of through
traffic.
“Developed in consultation with the community, the project will
comprise $100,000 this financial year and $100,000 the next
financial year.
“During construction, property access may be affected for short
durations.
“Council officers will contact residents, where relevant, to
discuss timing for access or parking if work is likely to block
entrances.
“I look forward to the successful completion of this project and
thank affected residents and users of the area for their patience
and the workers for their time and effort in the
construction.”
Works will commence week beginning 23 January 2012, and are
anticipated to be complete within four weeks (weather
permitting), excluding intersections still in design.
The project will include works to the following locations:
· Cinnamon and
Seagull Avenue - intersection improvements
· Cinnamon and
Spindrift Avenue - intersection improvements
· Cinnamon and
Banksia Avenue - intersection improvements
· Banksia Avenue
and Central Avenue - intersection improvements
· Cinnamon
Avenue, south of Banksia Avenue - pathway and pedestrian refuge
installation
· Park Crescent,
south of Acacia Avenue – pathway and pedestrian refuge
installation.
The intersection of Cinnamon, Hewitt and Springfield and the
pedestrian refuge on Park Crescent, south of Acacia Avenue are
currently in design and will be delivered during the course of
2012.
