Katter’s Australian Party coal seam gas mining protection plan

State Leader of Katter’s Australian Party, Aidan McLindon MP, will address the National Day of Action rally in Brisbane today, which aims to raise awareness of the environmental and food security impacts of unrestrained coal seam gas mining.

During his address, Mr McLindon will outline the Australian Party’s 12 point protection plan which will address concerns of landholders. Key aspects of Katter’s Australian Party policy are:

  •  Implementation of a 12 month moratorium on all new coal seam gas developments
  •  Development of no-go zones over sensitive areas such as the Scenic Rim, the Golden Triangle and the Great Artesian Basin
  •  Providing landholders the right to say no to mining and allowing community input

“The Australian Party is the only party in the Queensland parliament that has a policy to give landholders their rights back. The ALP and Liberals have nothing more than empty words and will not offer any protections,” said Mr McLindon.

“Katter’s Australian Party will enact a 12 month moratorium and will give landholders the right to say no. These are concrete elements of our policy. Neither Campbell Newman nor Anna Bligh are prepared to give these guarantees because they remain on the side of miners.”

“The Parliamentary voting record shows that on 24 November last year both the ALP and LNP voted against a motion calling for a moratorium on coal seam gas. Only the Australian Party will genuinely stand up for farming and agriculture in this state.”

  1. THe Greens are opposed to CPoal Seam Gas because they want to eliminate the use of fossil fuels. If you ride to town on a pushbike then their policy makes sense but if you use a car train or bus then their policy is a threat to your way of life.

Katter and Bob Green getting together on CSG is a recipe for a big bang, Keep well awy from the danger zone.

  3. This is GREAT. And in Australian fairness, we need to reward those citizens and landholders who honored the law for the past century by co-existing with the petroleum industry. Lets return all the schools, roads, bridges and hospitals that have been built for all Australians with royalty payments, taxes and jobs back to those honorable and fairthfull Australians of old. And the let's encourage Australia to further increase its dependence on Middle East diesel and fuels because every farmer knows he needs fuel for the farms, fuels to make fertilizers, pesticides and herdicides, and fuel to transport produce to market. And never mind that all the water produced by CSG is only a minor drop in the GAB bucket. And never mind that frac fluids are safer than many foods and drinks on your dinner table. Yes this is a great political stunt. But what ever happened to great ideas for us rural and urban Australians?
