Kick back and enjoy a free afternoon of cool jazz in the botanic gardens
With the idyllic botanic gardens as your backdrop and the smooth
sounds of cool jazz in the air, Sunshine Coast Council’s first
free community Sundayze Series event for 2012 kicks off this
Sunday and looks set to be a crowd pleaser.
Jazz in the Garden, the first event in the Winter series of six,
will be held in the pristine lawns of the Maroochy Regional
Bushland Botanic Gardens, Palm Creek Road, Tanawha this Sunday,
10 June 2012 from 1pm to 4pm.
Popular festival jazz bands The Caxton Street Band and the
Barbara Fordham Trio will feature in the line-up.
Local residents will know The Caxton Street Jazz Band from its
dominance in Brisbane’s Jazz scene for over 30 years. While their
roots are firmly planted in the hot jazz of the early 1900’s,
many other influences include Big Band Swing, mainstream jazz,
folk, country, rhythm , blues and popular music of the 30’s, 40’s
and 50’s.
The Barbara Fordham Trio has been singing up a storm at Jazz and
Blues festivals around the country for the past 20 years. The
Trio play a vintage repertoire with a contemporary sound as well
as an eclectic array of well loved favourites.
Wrapping up the day’s entertainment will be the Sunshine Coast
Grammar School Big Band, led by the esteemed Mr Charlie Simm. The
band has performed live on stage with James Morrison, impressed
the crowds at the Dingo Creek Jazz Festival and for the past five
years has taken out the highly coveted Gold Award at the
prestigious Queensland Music Festival.
If you need further incentive to get along to this free,
family-friendly community event, there will be food and coffee
stalls as well as free face painting and a jumping castle for the
kids.
So pack a picnic, bring your own chair and chill out for a Sunday
afternoon treat.
The Sundayze Series, which runs fortnightly from June to August,
delivers individually themed fun and entertaining programs.
Check out council’s ‘Events’ calendar at
www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au for details.
In the event of inclement weather conditions, Jazz in the Garden
will be cancelled. Council’s website and Facebook pages will be
updated the morning of the event to advise of any changes to
program details.
