Landsborough couple serve together, awarded together

26/01/10    Landsborough couple serve together, awarded together

Landsborough couple Dawn and Frank Wendt were both recognised for their community service at the Fisher Community Australia Day Awards.

The couple have a combined service of almost 90 years, to various local clubs and organisations, including the Lansborough tennis club, BeeGees soccer club and local Girl Guides.

The couple also celebrated 51 years of marriage this year on 26 January.

“This is a wonderful couple, who have served each other over a long period but also served the community; they are truly an inspiration to all of us and deserved recipients of Fisher Community Australia Day Awards,” said member for Fisher Peter Slipper.

Below is the text that was read out on the day…

Mrs Dawn Wendt – for service to the Landsborough community over 46 years

Mrs Wendt has a long history of service for the people of Landsborough.

She has held key senior positions over many years in numerous social and sporting clubs, including Landsborough Tennis Club – for which she is current Treasurer - the Lions Vigoro Club, the BeeGees Soccer Club and Girl Guides.

She also serves the local Church of England, with stints as Secretary of the Guild, a Sunday school teacher, as a Warden, and even cleaning the church, mowing the lawn and fundraising for 20 years.

Mrs Wendt today continues to take care of the Girl Guides hut, including mowing the grass, managing bookings and overseeing general maintenance.

Along with her husband, Frank, she also maintains the Landsborough tennis courts.

Mrs Wendt’s service is considerable and has made an important difference in the small Landsborough community over many years.

I ask that Mrs Wendt remain on stage as I call up the next recipient…

Her husband, Mr Frank Wendt – for service to the Landsborough community over 40 years

Mr Wendt has served his community through the Landsborough Tennis Club and the BeeGees Soccer Club – where he has marked the playing fields for many years and still conducts fundraising goose club raffles every week.

He is a former board member for the Sunshine Coast Soccer Association, a former team manager, and a member of the disciplinary committee.

Mr Wendt continues to manage the Girl Guide Hut, along with his wife, as well as maintaining the tennis courts, also with his wife.

His many years of community work over four decades and his dedicated service have made a significant impact on the Landsborough Community.
