Lifeline Telephone Counsellor Training Course starts soon...

Training conducted every Thursdays between 5:45 pm and 9 p.m.

SUICIDE, family breakdown, domestic violence, stress and burnout, emotional problems and mental health are only some of the issues that Lifeline's team of Volunteer Telephone Counsellors respond to on a daily basis, while serving on the 24 hour Crisis Line.

Lifeline on the Sunshine Coast receives approximately 500 calls per month on its 13 11 14 crisis line. These are handled by the Volunteer Telephone Counsellors, who usually do a four hour shift every fortnight and an overnight shift every three months.

In order to meet the continuing demand for Volunteer Telephone Counsellors, Lifeline conducts two training courses each year. The next course will be an evening course, starting on Thursday 12th February 2009 and concluding on 11th June.

All training will be conducted on Thursdays between 5.45pm and 9pm at the Lifeline Client Services Centre 37 Duporth Avenue, Maroochydore.

The cost of the first 8 weeks of the course is $345.00 or $295.00 concession. There is no charge for the second part of the course. The cost includes all training manuals and workbooks. Those who are accepted into and complete the second part and are assessed as competent to be telephone counsellors will be offered a reimbursement of $50.00 after successful completion of 6 months of Clinical Practice.
