Mark Jameison Mayoral Candidate - Mayoral Policy #7
Today mayoral candidate Mark Jamieson took aim at his opponents
and those who have suggested he has a plan for rampant
development or is backed by the development industry.
“Development entitlements will not be expanded or enlarged from
what currently exists under the planning schemes for at least the
next two years and possibly for the term of the next council” he
said
“As a general principle development density, location, and height
will remain unchanged, other than where anomalies exist in the
scheme”. He added
“I want the Sunshine Coast community to know that I stand for job
creation so our residents can have a secure future and fully
enjoy all the great natural attractions and climate our region
has to offer. Sunshine Coast parents need to recognize I will
stand up for the future of their children and their right to a
prosperous and satisfying career” Mr. Jamieson said
Currently we are witnessing a serious drain of talent from the
construction sector which we will struggle to recover from in
time to capitalize on major projects like the University
Hospital, Maroochydore Principal Activity Centre and the
education precinct at Sippy Downs.
“On top of that our younger demographics are leaving the area due
to a lack of career opportunity and the social and cultural
infrastructure that is available elsewhere in south east
Queensland. We need more integrated employment options for those
progressing from high school and university” Mr. Jamieson
said
“There is more than enough land on the Sunshine Coast (already
approved) for residential, commercial and industrial development
to cater for the needs of the community for many, many years. The
real challenge for council is to create an environment of trust
and confidence so as to attract private investment and broaden
our economic base.” He concluded
Council will work hard to restore its relationship with the State
Government to re-capture from the Urban Land Development
Authority (ULDA) the complete control over Caloundra South.
“It will be part of our community and should be planned and
managed by our local government” Mr. Jamieson said
