Mooloolaba Harbour open for business
The entrance to the Mooloolaba Harbour is back in business again
after the successfully dredging of the channel, Member for
Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said.
Ms Simpson said boaties would be pleased to know the problem
entrance to the Mooloolah River, which had caused recreational
and commercial boaties grave safety concerns due to a large sand
shoal, had been fixed. She said she had been advised that due to
strong wind warnings, dredging on the remaining shoal on the
western side of the channel would be stopped for the rest of the
week, however she had been assured the channel itself was
clear.
She said Maritime Safety Queensland had decided that as a result
of the bad weather, the big dredge, the Port Frederick, would
leave Mooloolaba today, and when calmer weather returned, the
smaller Saibai which is still contracted on site, would finish
the job.
Ms Simpson thanked boaties for their patience and urged anyone
venturing out to always check the official notices to mariners to
check conditions. She also thanked the dredge operators for their
work.
