More rain on the way

Sunshine Coast Council’s Deputy Local Disaster Management Group Coordinator Andrew Ryan said more heavy rain is predicted for the Sunshine Coast over the next 24 hours.

It follows a night of rain in the region, with Nambour, Woombye and Maleny receiving the heaviest falls.

About 70 roads are cut off across the Sunshine Coast with many more under water – drivers are asked to remember that if it’s flooded – forget it.

Police are urging people to take care and to drive to the conditions – this follows reports of some drivers disregarding temporary signs.

The access road to the bridge on Bridge Creek Road has been washed away leaving about a dozen homes stranded and council is urgently reviewing that situation.

Access to the Nambour Hospital has been restored from all directions.

The Queensland Emergency Services worked through the night and its 160 jobs at 10pm have been reduced to about 60 this morning.

Council’s Facebook site at https://www.facebook.com/SunshineCoastCouncil is being updated regularly with information. You can also follow us on Twitter at @CouncilSCC for updates.

In life threatening situations call Triple Zero (000) and for emergency assistance from SES call 132500.

As residents would understand, council is receiving many phone calls and web requests about the weather event and people are being asked to delay any general council enquiries.

Parents are advised to check the Department of Education’s website or Facebook page for the most up-to-date advice about schools.
