NAIDOC Week flag-raising ceremony
3 July 2009 NAIDOC Week flag-raising ceremony
Sunshine Coast Council will mark the start of NAIDOC Week with a flag-raising ceremony at the Nambour library forecourt on Monday 6 July at 1pm.
Mayor Bob Abbot will attend the ceremony, which is open to the public and will be attended by traditional elders and special guests.
NAIDOC Week is held from 5-12 July and celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The Mayor said council was proud to be partnering with Indigenous groups, businesses and community groups to bring NAIDOC Week celebrations to the community.
"NAIDOC Week is a chance to look back and acknowledge the enormous contribution that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have made to our country," the Mayor said.
"It's about celebrating Indigenous culture and recognising the important role it plays in our community today and into the future."
