New interactive tool to act as crystal ball for growth

Premier Anna Bligh has announced a new interactive tool that will allow Queenslanders to glimpse the future of the State under different growth scenarios.

The Premier said the "SEQ Futures" application on the on the growth management website at www.qld.gov.au/growthsummit would allow Queenslanders to nominate their own priorities for future growth.

"This program lets people tell us what they value most about the region - like environmental protection or a quiet neighbourhoods," she said.

"The program then uses this information to offer the user a snap shot of what that future will look like depending on the choices they make.

"This SEQ Futures tool will mean Queenslanders can tell us what is important to them in planning for growth and it allows them to see for themselves a range of different futures."

Ms Bligh said the SEQ Futures tool meant Queenslanders will also be able to see the implications of different housing choices and transport choices.

"The site asks questions such as do we sprawl out or become more compact, should we prioritise new roads or more public transport?" said the Premier.

"Managing growth effectively involves trade-offs to make sure we protect the lifestyle we love.

"Our government does not shy away from the fact that there are choices to be made if we are to manage growth better.

"SEQ Futures is another way for members of the public to be part of the debate about how we better manage growth in Queensland.

"By using SEQ Futures the government can also ensure we identify Queenslanders priorities and views on possible futures moving into the summit."

Queenslanders can take the SEQ Futures challenge from noon today if they visit the growth management website at www.qld.gov.au/growthsummit.
