Newman must end confusion and commit to Building Boost grant

Campbell Newman must commit to the extension of the Building Boost Grant at his LNP fundraiser breakfast this morning, Deputy Premier and Treasurer Andrew Fraser said.

"Last week we responded to industry's calls and extended the $10 000 Building Boost Grant through to 30 April - and the Shadow Treasurer refused to commit to the extension," Mr Fraser said.

"Confidence is rebuilding in the sector - that's why industry wanted an extension - and that confidence can't be compromised by political uncertainty from the LNP.

"Our property industry is on the way back and that recovery will be hindered if Campbell Newman sends mixed messages to prospective purchasers and investors about the LNP's commitment to the boost extension.

"Jobs in the property sector will be at risk if the LNP plays politics with the boost.

Mr Fraser said the Master Builders Association and the Housing Industry Association strongly welcomed the extension  and he expected Mr Newman would face questions today about the LNP's policy position.

"Mr Newman has told media he will commit to a 4% unemployment rate by 2018 - if he is fair dinkum then he needs today to commit to the Building Boost extension."

Mr Fraser called on Mr Newman to set out how he would achieve his target and set a clear target for the coming term.

"Mr Newman doesn't like accountability but he does like big slogans and stunts.  Queenslanders deserve to be given a clear mark for the next term so they can be confident they can judge Mr Newman at the next election, should he be elected."

"Given his broken prom ise on keeping rates to inflation Queenslanders need Mr Newman to give a clear commitment - not a statement on which he can't be held to account for another two elections."
