Nominate a Queensland Great today
Premier Anna Bligh has announced the launch of the 2012
Queensland Greats Awards.
"Each year during Queensland Week celebrations, the Queensland
Government, through this prestigious awards program, honours
proud individuals and distinguished institutions that have shown
a lifetime dedication and contribution to the development of
Queensland," Ms Bligh said.
"Since the announcement of the first Queensland Greats in 2001,
we have recognised outstanding individuals from a variety of
fields and pursuits, such as immunologist Professor Peter Doherty
AC (2003), Queensland's first female Governor Leneen Forde AC
(2007) and rugby league legend Wally Lewis AM (2011).
"Iconic institutions such as Mater Misericordiae Health Services
(2006), Surf Life Saving Queensland (2007) and the Queensland
State Emergency Service (2011) have also been recognised since
the inception of the Institution award in 2006.
"Queensland Week is a time to recognise and celebrate our great
strengths and achievements and I urge all Queenslanders to
nominate a friend, colleague, family member, community leader or
institution that has made a significant contribution to our
state," Ms Bligh said.
The 2012 Queensland Greats will be announced during Queensland
Week celebrations, 2 - 11 June 2012.
