Noosa Exchange Student heads off to the USA

1 July 2009 Noosa Exchange Student heads off to the USA

Glen Elmes, State Member for Noosa and the Shadow Minister for Climate Change & Sustainability was delighted to meet Georgia Ryan today in his office, prior to her departure on a high school exchange program to North Dakota, USA.

"Georgia will be spending 6 months in a high school in a town near Fargo, North Dakota, as part of the Education First student exchange program" said Glen Elmes. See link at: http://www.ef-australia.com.au/master/hsy/

"Before heading off to her new school, Georgia will be in Boston for a 3 week cultural immersion program so that she can learn about life in America.

"Georgia currently attends St Teresa's Catholic College in Noosaville and she is the first student from the school, and the only one from the Sunshine Coast, to participate in the exchange program.

"Georgia came to my office today, together with her dad, Brendan, and I presented to her a couple of illustrated books by well-known Cairns photographer Peter Lik, which I understand she will give to her host family and school.

"I believe that Georgia did a lot of work researching the program, and presented her parents with a very businesslike plan outlining the reasons for why she should undertake the trip. I think that this shows remarkable initiative and Georgia is obviously a highly-motivated young person who will benefit hugely from this journey and undoubtedly make the most of her time in North America.
