One Stop Shop for Sports Sign on
Families around the state can check out a range of winter sports
on offer and also sign their kids up there and then at the Bligh
Government's Super Sports Sign-on Day this Sunday (Sunday, 12
February). Sport Minister Phil Reeves said the one-stop shop for
sports will be held from 10 am to 1pm at key locations around the
state making it easier for Mums and Dads to sign their kids up
for the coming season.
"The various clubs will have a stand inviting new members to find
out information relating to training and meeting times, coaching
and fees," Mr Reeves said. "There'll be stalls promoting a range
of sport and recreation opportunities including AFL, soccer,
hockey, netball, rugby league and rugby union.
"There're so many activities to choose from, and having all the
clubs in one spot will make it a breeze for busy families. "It's
also a great way for clubs to find volunteers and network with
other groups." Mr Reeves said it will take the stress out of
choosing a winter sport for children. "Making sport fun and
easily accessible is what this is all about," he said.
"Under our Toward Q2: Tomorrow's Queensland initiative, our goal
is to help Queenslanders become Australia's healthiest people.
"It also forms part of our commitment to sport and recreation at
the grassroots level, which is a breeding ground for tomorrow's
champions. "The Bligh Government's support helps to provide a
platform for junior players to cultivate their talents so they
can make it to the elite level, reinforcing Queensland's
reputation as the Champions State.
"We've made the tough economic decisions to ensure we can
continue to support local sport and recreation. "Because of the
strong leadership of the Bligh Government we are able to invest
more in sport and recreation than any other state in the
country." Locations across Queensland for the Super Sports
Sign-on Day include Bundaberg, Cairns, Townsville, Mount Isa,
Mackay, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast, Deception Bay, Toowoomba,
Ipswich, Brisbane, Redlands, and Gold Coast.
