Performax International honoured in Queensland training Awards
INDEPENDENT American vehicle importer Performax Internatonal has
been honoured in the annual Queensland Training Awards for its
contribution as one of the Gympie-Cooloola region’s leading
employers.
Performax, based at Gympie, has been selected as one of only
three North Coast regional finalists in the Employer of the Year
division.
The regional winners will be announced on 30 July and if
successful, Performax will be a contender for the State awards in
September and Australian Training Awards in November.
Performax International, formerly Corvette Queensland, has been
importing and converting American sports trucks, cars and
caravans for more than 20 years.
It is now Australia‘s biggest operator in this highly-specialised
industry, employing quality-assured design, engineering and
manufacturing practices to produce models such as the Chevrolet
Camaro, Corvette and Silverado and Ford Mustang in right-hand
drive to new-vehicle standards.
A high level of staff training has been pivotal to Performax’s
success, says General Manager Glenn Soper.
“Our workforce of almost 70 people includes highly-skilled
computer-aided parts designers, engineers mechanics and
fabricators. Their job is to re-engineer to Australian Government
standards some of the most sophisticated cars in the world, such
as the 320 kmh Chev Corvette ZR!, while retaining all the
original factory qualities of driveability and finish,” Mr Soper
said.
“We invest constantly in training not only to enable our staff to
meet these standards but also to provide the personal development
opportunities that ensure a stable workforce, which is especially
important in a regional location.
“Performax International is extremely proud that the Queensland
Training Awards have recognised our training programs, which have
resulted in a magnificent employee team and industry-leading
products.”
Performax operates from three sites on the southern outskirts of
Gympie. It recently commissioned a new factory, designed on
production-line principles, to build its biggest-selling product,
the Chevy Silverado sports truck.
