Peter Slipper Calls for Cooperation

As time is running out for public consultation on the Transport and Main Roads proposed Bruce Highway closure of on/off ramps, Member for Fisher Peter Slipper has asked for political games to end and for cooperation to begin.

“I am disappointed the Member for Kawana did not respond to my invitation to our Aussie World community forum issued the day prior to his community gathering, and instead is now using this to create conflict instead of cooperation” said Mr Slipper. “This is an important issue which will affect everyone on the Sunshine Coast and in particular those businesses and residents along the 7km strip with the proposed closure of six on/off ramps.  This needs to be our focus not political grandstanding.”

Mr Slipper issued invitations on the morning of Friday 13 January for his 29 January public forum (taking place at Aussie World at 6pm) to Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese, Queensland Minister for Main Roads Craig Thompson, Queensland Minister for Transport Annastacia Palszczuk, all Sunshine Coast State members, Sunshine Coast Council Mayor, Councillors and candidates, as well as businesses and organisations actively working to address this issues at hand.

“We should all be mindful that I am not in election mode so it’s a shame Mr Bleijie is on a headline grabbing rampage in his attempts for re‐election in the next few months instead of working together for a positive outcome on this important issue.”
