QPSU Members Join Queensland Party
Support for Alex Scott
Queensland Party Leader, Aidan McLindon, said today that the
party is receiving growing support from members of the Queensland
Public Sector Union and that the resignation of QPSU Secretary,
Alex Scott, on the weekend of the Labor State Conference, was
proof the party had taken its traditional support base for
granted.
“The Queensland Party has a large number of QPSU members and the
candidates for Townsville and Burdekin are long-serving QPSU
officials,” said Mr McLindon.
“Mr Scott is a man of principle and has stated he wishes to
establish a political action group. I wish him all the best with
this endeavour and have no doubt that we can work together on
areas of common interest, such as opposition to asset
sales.”
Queensland Party candidate for Burdekin, Ron Wadforth, stated
that he was not surprised Alex Scott had resigned from the Labor
Party after 28 years.
“This is yet more evidence of Labor losing support from its
traditional power base, the working class Queenslander,” said Mr
Wadforth.
“I do support Mr Scott and respect his decision which can hardly
have been an easy one after 28 years with the ALP. Mr Scott has
been a great support to QPSU members in Townsville and he
has my full support as a member of the QPSU.”
“Many people have suggested my move to The Queensland Party was a
great surprise but my reply is simple. The Queensland Party
values fair, strong representation at the parliamentary level and
the Queensland Public Sector Union has always put its members
first in regards to work place representation. This is where The
Queensland Party and the Queensland Public Sector Union come
together for me.”
“In fact, it is QPSU members who are driving the growth of The
Queensland Party in Townsville and who are establishing branches
in the region.”
