Queensland homeless services share in $29 million boost
Queenslanders at risk of homelessness will continue to receive
vital crisis accommodation support thanks to $29 million funding
announced today.
Housing Minister Karen Struthers said the 14 services receiving
funding offered short term accommodation and support services to
single adults, families and women who are at risk of becoming
homeless.
Two of these services specifically assist women and women with
children to escape from domestic and family violence.
"Everyone needs someone to turn to and somewhere safe to stay
when times are tough or if there is a need to escape from
domestic and family violence in the home," Minister Struthers
said.
"These providers reach out to individuals and families offering
short-term accommodation and support to get their lives back on
track."
"That's what this funding boost of $29,669,733 over three years
is all about."
The providers receiving funding are:
• New Farm Neighbourhood Centre
($1,866,060)
• Micah Inner City Services ($2,564, 487)
• South Brisbane Mens Hostel ($5,371,488)
• Rockhampton Hostel Accommodation

Visiting Hart 4000, a service run by New Farm Neighbourhood
Cerntre, that provides brokerage and referral service to homeless
people and those at risk of becoming homeless, Minister Struthers
and Brisbane Central MP Grace Grace said the services are helping
people move from the street to more stable accommodation.
"Last year HART 4000 provided advice to 1325 people and is linked
into specialist, health, housing and social services," Ms Grace
said.
"Places like Hart 4000 do a magnificent job coordinating homeless
services, especially in and around the CBD," she said
"The Queensland Government will continue to take significant
steps towards achieving the national goals of halving overall
homelessness and offering supported accommodation to all rough
sleepers by 2020," said Ms Struthers
This State funding announced today is in addition to the $284M
that the State and Federal Government have jointly committed over
5 year through the National Partnership Agreement on
Homeless.
This funds innovative responses to homelessness such as the Youth
Housing and Reintegration Services, 50 Homes 50 Lives and Common
Ground .
