Queensland job creation continues

Job creation has continued in Queensland with 13 months of continuous growth.

August ABS data released today revealed that the Bligh Government's plan for economic reform was helping drive growth in the labour force, Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser said.

"The job numbers we've seen over the past 13 months indicate we are on the right track and our plan to create jobs and build the recovery from the global financial crisis is working," Mr Fraser said.

"In August, 300 new jobs were created in Queensland and trend unemployment has gone down to 5.4%.

"That's down from the high of 6% last October.

"While this level of jobs growth is more subdued than recent months, it's still a positive result.

"Its further evidence of the fact that while a recovery from the global financial crisis is underway, we are not completely out the other side."

Mr Fraser said the Bligh Government remains committed to delivering on its election commitment to create 100,000 net new jobs this term.

"The data today shows that 53,900 jobs have been created since March 2009, meaning the target now sits at 46,100.

"We knew there would be challenges in delivering on this commitment, but we're not going to shirk it. We are over halfway and have every intention of delivering.

"Meanwhile, the LNP have no jobs target and no plan to create jobs. Their only position on jobs is to reassess our $17 billion building program - which means cutting projects and slashing thousands of jobs."
