Queensland Music Festival
The Queensland Music Festival Board confirmed today the
appointment of internationally renowned jazz musician James
Morrison as Artistic Director of the 2013 and 2015 Festivals. QMF
Chair Kate Farrar said the Board is ecstatic at his
appointment.
“Not only is James an international star performer, he is also an
inspiring and highly experienced music educator who will champion
the community development aspects so important to the Festival,”
Ms Farrar said. James Morrison describes his appointment as an
extremely exciting new chapter in his life.
“Having spent many years performing all over Queensland, I have
an appreciation for the breadth of music this State has to
offer,” Mr Morrison said. “I'm very much looking forward to
working with the QMF team to continue and expand the spectacular
work for which this Festival is renowned.”
QMF is a biennial state-wide celebration of music with a vision
to transform lives through unforgettable musical experiences. The
Festival presents the best of local, national and international
talent performing every conceivable style of music to
Queenslanders from all walks of life, in Brisbane, and in
regional and remote centres from Thursday Island to the Gold
Coast.
With record audiences of 178,000 people, sell-out Brisbane shows,
and both popular and critical acclaim for world premiere
performances, QMF’s most recent Festival in July 2011 featured a
staggering 202 events in Brisbane and 34 regional and remote
centres throughout Queensland.
